We’re thrilled to announce our involvement in Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm. This is a major achievement for the business and a key step in aligning with our strategy to expand the Nuclear & Infrastructure division into new and innovative sectors.
A Major Step in UK’s Renewable Energy Future
Located 160 km off the Yorkshire coast and 120 km off the Norfolk coast, Hornsea 3 is set to deliver 2.9 GW of green energy—enough to power over 3 million UK homes. As part of the UK government's strategy to meet climate and clean energy targets, this project will play a crucial role in enhancing UK energy security. When completed, Hornsea 3 will feature up to 231 offshore wind turbines, contributing to the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
“Severfield’s successful award on this contract is a cumulation of hard work and positive collaboration between both parties over a number of years. As the global offshore wind industry continues to grow, the importance of showcasing opportunities to competitive and capable UK suppliers is ever more important. Supporting Severfields’ diversification into offshore renewables is testament to the strength of the UK supply chain and the role Hornsea 3 is playing to boost economic growth across the UK.” - Marc Adams, Lead Supply Chain Development Manager, Ørsted
Severfield’s role in the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm
Working alongside our strategic key contractor, Hutchinson Engineering, we will manufacture, assemble, and commission key components, including boat landings and ladders, anode cages, and supported internal platforms (SIPs).
To manage production, we’re setting up a bespoke temporary final assembly facility in Teesside. This facility, located close to the giant SeAH monopile factory being built by Severfield, will be used for the final assembly, electrical fit-out, and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of the SIPs before they are stored and shipped offshore for installation.
"We are bringing world-class investors to Teesworks as our region leads the way in developing the green, clean industries of the future. It is great to see Orsted providing outstanding opportunities for talented local business such as Severfield to work on major projects such as Hornsea 3. This contract award shows how local workers are benefiting from the transformation happening here on Teesside, which is delivering huge investment and well-paid, highly skilled jobs." – Ben Houchen, Mayor of the Tees Valley
Supporting Local Communities and the UK’s Energy Security

Our contribution to Hornsea 3 will not only help boost the UK’s renewable energy capacity but also support local job creation in the Northeast, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to UK energy security.” - Jim Martindale, Divisional Managing Director, Severfield Nuclear & Infrastructure
By supporting Hornsea 3, we’re playing our part in the drive toward a sustainable future and Net Zero. Projects like this align with our own sustainability goals, reinforcing our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that contribute to a greener world.
