The South Bank is one of London’s most popular tourist attractions - there’s always something fun happening, making it a must-see for anyone visiting the Capital.
When we got involved with this project, we were thrilled to be a part of an exciting new addition to the South Bank skyline.

CIT’s South Bank Tower project involved the construction of additional floors above an existing concrete tower and podium structure. These improvements were to make way for an exciting mixed-use development of 191 high-end luxury apartments, 370,000ft² of office space and 72,000ft² of retail outlets. These extensions were carefully constructed utilising steel frames supported by the existing concrete.
We constructed a 12-storey vertical extension to the existing 30-storey tower, comprising a steel frame with metal decking which was ‘cantilevered’ from the new concrete core utilising 100mm diameter Macalloy sloping tension bars, which were tied back to the central core.
We also provided the off-site application of 60 and 90 minute intumescent fire protection coating to all of the main frame steelwork. In relation to the podium extension, which consisted of new steel framing and metal decking to floor levels 7-10, these were erected off the lightweight existing reinforced concrete waffle slab and the project also featured a Fabsec floor beam design.
The completed project is a beautiful feat of engineering and wonderful addition to the city’s river-view developments.
